Week 4 Reading

Database Article on Wikipedia-
So, essentially this article breaks down databases as systems of organizing and maintaining data or information held on computers.  It gives the reader a breakdown on the different types of databases and models.  It would seem that users of databases would have different uses or needs for specific database and not others.  They are storage solutions of electronic files and media, and there are software programs that are able to read the files so that users can still access and retrieve their files.  I think it also important to mention that there are security functions within databases to protect the integrity of files, especially in occasions that the records hold personal or confidential information. 
Metadata-
The break down or actual translation of Metadata is "data about data."  This article is a breakdown of how metadata can be used or organized by information professionals, however they are not the only users of metadata.  Development of Metadata systems for libraries  has been about providing intellectual and physical access to information and collections. There has been advances in automating the organization of their materials.  Archives have been focused on the context and preserving data and information over time.  Traditional documentation structure was adopted by the industry in organizing the records and assembling them in a hierarchy model.  Although metadata isn't just limited to information professionals, but user created metadata bases are now available in different venues on the internet.  Metadata is not limited to digital files, as libraries and archives have known, it often relates to analog artifacts but its an important tool in the structure of organization of information and records.
Dublin Core Data Model-
The Dublin Core Data Model is an international initiative to attempt to create a data model of organization.  Especially with different languages on the global scale, it is easy to see why they might want to approach and create a kind of standard for database structure.  If successful, the system and structure could clarify and easily allow users free streaming access to data and information.
